Most of the Month of May

It's hard to believe that the year is almost half way over. Josh starts his finals this upcoming week and summer for all of the school kiddos commences on Friday as well. I am in denial that this summer has arrived because three of my best friends are moving on to new adventures in their lives, two of them in the next two weeks. I think by far April and May are my favorite time of year, full of sunshine, parks, and lots of playing outside before the blasted heat rolls in. This month has been so fun!
Yesterday after church we enjoyed the outdoors. Ian and Tate donned their rain boots and Josh and I brought out the camping chairs. Who knew a puddle could bring so much bliss. It even resulted in a bath; an added bonus for the boys. The rain boots were so well utilized they didn't manage to keep their feet dry, but they do dry out faster than shoes. I think I need full galoshes with the overalls attached if I ever want to actually keep them clean and dry. Boys will be boys...
Follow the leader was the game of the day. Then it started pouring which deterred these boys 0%. They just got out their cars to keep them dry from the rain. Josh and I huddled in the garage and observed. I do love warm rain.
Ian still uses his bottle. It is my parenting fail according to the doctors. He seems ok to me though and I love the snuggles I still get occasionally while he guzzles. It sure beats the dehydration that occurs every time I try to get him off.
My two big boys. We were playing at the park last week and a boy called Tate a little kid. We have discussed the trauma it has caused in Tate's mind every day. He does not like being called little.
We have a book about a piggy who wallows all over the fair. My children reenact it in my living room every time I sort laundry. They think it is the most wonderful game invented. What could be more comfortable than a load of dirty clothes?
This month coloring clicked for Tate. He now colors daily, and he does a good job. If anyone needs fridge adornments let me know, mine is over populated and somehow he remembers if one of his masterpieces disappears. Envelopes make it ok though. The idea of making someone else happy, coupled with licking and stickering an envelop is hard to beat.
My boys. They are looking at the TV behind me of course but they were together!!!! Note Tate wearing a 24 month old shirt he pilfered from Ian's drawer 3 times now. It exposes his abdomen every time his arms move and yet I can't get him to part with it. I have even found him in it after has gone to bed. It magically finds a way to his body at all hours of the day.
Our Cinco de Mayo piƱata. I think it looks like the cross of a sombrero and the Harry Potter sorting hat.
I just love when they sit together CALMLY. It doesn't happen nearly enough.
For Mother's Day (the day before) we went to the circus. It was fun to get out of the house as a family. Tate's favorite part was the snacks... I think technology is killing live events like this because I could easily watch everything I saw from the comfort of my couch for free. It was fun and wonderful to be out together, but I wouldn't do it again. I will say though it was nice I didn't have to keep Ian quiet at all. Loud and contained is much easier than quiet and reverent.
My little helper chef. He would scoop flour all day if he could. Someday I may graduate to awesome mom enough to let him scoop away all morning by himself, but for now I am to much of a clean freak. Luckily he was happy with the unplugged mixer and a spoon. This boy sure does love his cookies though. And when he says cookie so sweet I have a hard time denying him.
On one of our many park visits Tate was riding the motorcycle and it took we back to our first Fall in Davenport. He and I would walk for HOURS, and usually end up and this park. It's crazy what a couple years can do.
This is how Ian falls asleep when he is exhausted and refusing to sleep in his crib. The stubborn child. He couldn't possibly have gotten it from me... :) Tate has strange sleeping habits too. Last night I found him asleep, with his hat on, and surrounded by every stuffed animal he could find, 15 give or take, drenched in sweat. I still have to reposition both my boys nightly before I go to bed to ensure they have a chance at sleeping through the night.
Tate learned how to push a swing. Mommy win.
Tate's friend Emily had a ballet performance and invited us to come watch. We came prepared. I let Tate pick her a flower and he was so excited. He was so sweet when he gave it to her too...
They are basically adorable and if I believed in arranged marriage, this would happen.
Two weeks later Josh and I went out for our anniversary dinner. We shared a mocajete. It was interesting and full of cactus which is surprisingly delicious. It's crazy to me we have been married for 5 years!
